"a common history, an extraordinary future"
Joy Helmer

Joy Helmer, RN, MS has had a lifelong passion for creating a peaceful, joy-filled world. Shaped by difficult experiences in her family growing up, witnessing the cold war, the civil rights era and the Vietnam war, among other conflicts, she knows that human beings have the potential to live together in much more life-affirming ways. Trained as a mediator, Joy was involved with the Restorative Justice movement for several years. She has studied different forms of communication, from Non-Violent Communication to Compassionate Listening. She is a certified trainer of Compassionate Listening and Past President of the Board of Directors of The Compassionate Listening Project for two years, resigning in July 2007. In The Israel-Palestine Project, Joy is relishing being involved with a deeply transformational experiment, one that has the potential to make a profound impact on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
